"Damascena" - the true story

New motion picture relating a story about the rose oil production was released this month.“Damascena” is the largest production shot in Bulgaria over the last two decades.

The protagonist is a common boy, born and grown in the Rose Valley in the 1960s. Based on a true story, the plot tracks his life path to these days. The story-line develops entirely in the Rose Valley and covers a period of over fifty years.

"The film is about a person that follows a dream, for the spiritual drive of a man to realize it through many vicissitudes” explains the movie director Todor Anastasov. "Damascena” is the story of our people, told through the fall and success of a dreamer. A contemporary poetic drama about roses and dreams”.

The scenario was filmed more than a year in the rose gardens near Kazanlak, with hundreds of background actors from the city of roses and tells a true story, intertwined with a legend. With an amazing cast of 56 actors and over 1300 background actors in the spectacular mass scenes, shot throughout four seasons and dozens of locations in Bulgaria.

"Very cleverly written and narrated, it is filmed with attention and attitude," says Lyuben Chatalov, who plays the role of the protagonist’s father, Techo (Vesselin Plachkov). “The hero has his own story, but I felt like we had a bigger story to tell, one for inspiration and belief”, said the actor.
